Hello, dear Patrons, and welcome to another short Batman oneshot from the author of last week’s fic. Since there’s nothing to recap, let’s take a look at the summary.

This is set during episode 8 season 2, JTV the one where the Joker is making his own TV show and broadcasting it all over Gotham before releasing laughing gas. But what if just before he released the gas someone caught his eye and she was laughing at the misfortune of the Batman?…

Great, there’s going to be another mentally unstable Sue as the central character.

This does at least help me pinpoint better where in the vast Batman’verse the fic is being set – during the early 2000s show The Batman. While I’ll always be a B:TAS girl, it’s pretty good and has an interesting visual style that sets it apart, although I spent most of my time watching it playing “Guess that Voice” because a handful of Batman alumni pop up in different episodes (notably my velvet-voiced bae Kevin Conroy as Dick Grayson’s ill-fated father John) and the somewhat irritating insistence of always referring to Batman as The Batman as if it was some sort of formal title, which really annoyed me after I noticed it. Their version of the Joker is …I want to say crazy, but that doesn’t seem like the right way to describe it. He’s more overt in his presentation; where B:TAS Joker was at his heart a coldly manipulative psychopath who used his madness like a tool, The Batman’s version seems at times to be barely in control of anything much less being any sort of criminal mastermind. It’s an interesting interpretation of the character.

On to the fic!

I own nothing but my OC.

I own a midsized SUV, four cats, part of a lemon pound cake, and more tea and craft supplies than a sensible person should – but you do you.

Did I accidentally copy the summary twice?

:checks:

No, the author just added it to the fic. And put in a line-break afterwards, but I’m going to snip that out because I can.

Greetings, dear Patrons, and welcome! I’m going to knock out a few oneshots before moving on to my next long-ish fic, so let’s get started with the summary.

a quick idea give it a go it took me half an hour and a rough idea and I thought why not :)

Well, that’s certainly a good sign.

To the fic!

I own nothing but my OC Aurora Destiny

Oof. The stink of Sue is strong with that name.

Singing softly I walked through the light grey hall containing eight cells.

Each containing mitochondria – which, as we all know, is the powerhouse of the cell.

Within these cells were the infamous Gotham Rogues, these included: The Joker, Harlequin, Scarecrow, Rebecca Albright The Riddler, Two-face, Victor Zsasz and Ragdoll.

Dude, that makes them sound like some sort of sportsball team. And her name is Harley Quinn – from her birth name, Harleen Quinzel, as well as being a play on the Harlequin. Also – Ragdoll? Seriously? Of all the villains available, you picked Ragdoll?

I don’t think the individual members of the Rogues’ Gallery were ever called “rogues” in-universe, just by the fandom, although the term “rogues’ gallery” has been used to collectively refer to the various villains of Gotham. It is an actual term used in the English language, although not one in common use these days. I did have to Google Rebecca Albright because I wasn’t familiar with that version of The Riddler – and couldn’t find anything but the social media accounts of a marine biologist with that name and a smattering of fanfic stuff. Not really sure what that means.

And seriously – Ragdoll?!?

Sunday Special: Batman 1939: The Dangers of Being Cold

“Oh, Bats is doing a Sunday Special? He must’ve finally gotten through the Backlog of Doom?”

Yeah, no. We’ve still got three more Shadow Warriors chunks and three more fics (all of which are long as balls) to clear before that happens (not to mention any seasonal riffs I break all that up with), assuming I don’t get any further during that time. I just wanted to inject a little positivity into the proceedings before we… proceed.

So, my new tradition (which I actually came up with in September but like hell am I going to go back and screw over the scheduling of my riffs that are already done to implement it) is that I’m going to recommend a good fic between each of my bad fics. Until I run out of good fics, which won’t take overwhelmingly long because I don’t read all that much fanfiction outside of what I do for the Library. But I’m hoping this’ll motivate me to find some more good ones.

Today’s recommendation is a Batman fic because I’m kind of extremely predictable like that. The premise of the fic is that Batman’s first outing as Batman was his real-world publication date of May, 1939, though characters introduced much later like Slade Wilson and Amanda Waller are also featured. The plot concerns a string of corpse thefts escalating into murder, which Batman traces back to a military base outside of Gotham. He’s forced to recruit Catwoman to help him break in and figure out what the corpses are being used for.

It features fantastically intricate worldbuilding, excellent pacing, gripping tension, awesome fight scenes (but not too many), and Amanda Waller being hilariously badass as usual. Also, lots of cutesy little references to stuff (mostly stuff that’s actually relevant to DC continuity, and even the external references are still fairly on-topic), which you could view as a good or bad thing depending on your point of view and how many of them you catch.

There are two sequels. The first one, which wasn’t finished when I read it, is actually a Wonder Woman crossover, but I don’t remember the plot very clearly. I haven’t seen the third and most recent installment at all.

Overall, the original in particular is easily the best fanfic I’ve ever read, and I can’t recommend it enough. I’ll see you guys next time with a considerably less well-written Batman fic.

*SLAM!*

2204: Love & Bullets – Chapter One, Part Two

[FILLER POST – Due to a file naming SNAFU back when I was a guest riffer, this riff was never posted. I never pointed it out because you guys honestly didn’t miss much. More recently, I figured I’d save it in the drafts for a rainy, riffless day. A day just like today, as it happens. This was written at the same time as the other Love & Bullets riffs that started going up back in 2016 or 2017 sometime, and I’ve not heavily edited it, so there are a few references that might not make sense anymore, but there they are. – Bats]

Hello, once again, patrons! I’m your guest host, BatJamags-

GoodJamags: So am I!

– and this moron and I are back for more of Love & Bullets. Last time, a Sue beat up some thugs in an alley. That’s it. Now we get to Nightwing babbling about how amazing the Sue is, so let’s dive in!

As much as I hate to acknowledge this, I know this little hellcat will willingly lay her life down in order to save mine.

GoodJamags: Why do you hate to acknowledge it?

1824: Batman and The Hunter Chap 1 & The Batman and The Hunter A Lady Waiting Chp 2 – Oneshots?

Hello, Patrons, and welcome to a new fic! No more boring Slender Man halfheartedly chasing an androgynous drone around the forest! This particular fic is listed as a crossover between Batman: The Animated Series (my all-time favorite show and the reason I love Batman so much) and “Mythology”, which seems to be where most authors stick things that don’t really go anywhere else. Let’s take a look at the summary, shall we?

Lisa Glider, a cat gryphoness/princess is held against her will and there’s no one who can save her…or is there? Read on and find out.

:looks up at author’s name:

I think I can spot the SI Sue already. Also, a gryphon (or griffin, both spellings are accurate) is an eagle/lion hybrid with the head, wings, and talons of an eagle and the body of a lion but this particular one apparently has an extra helping of regular cat in her to give her those kawaii desu! kitty ears. And she is a princess. Because that is a thing that can happen, I guess.

Let’s go to the actual fic, shall we?

Gotham City. A place of corruption, crime, and a law breakers paradise. People lived in fear, as mad men steal, rob, and take lives within their own ways. However, a major plan was going change the city forever, not even The Dark Knight would know what to do.

This looks a lot more like a summary than the actual fic summary does.
