Hey, everybody! I’m back with the second half of Chapter Four from “No title,” which I’m sure you are just itching to finish. I’ve got a big plate of crisped-rice cereal bars made with freshly laundered marshmallows so I’m ready to do this thing!

But first, the re-cap.

After hitting the children with various items, their baby-sitter Harley comforts the two children and they proceed to make cookies. While running in fear from Batman and crying like a little girl instead of acting like the badass embodiment of fear that he is, Scarecrow has a flashback that only serves to establish a relationship between him and his nephew Isaiah and deliver up a glowing yet somewhat vague description of the boy’s father: he has black-and-white wolf ears sitting on top of his head, a smokin’ hot bod, a killer sense of humor, and I get the impression that Scarecrow would like to take long walks on a beach at sunset with him.

Well, I thought I was done with the Batman fanfic “No title,” but after I finished the riff of Chapter Three I was cruising through ff.net and checking for fic updates when I saw that another chapter had been added.

:shakes fist at computer:

Damn you, Internet gods – damn you and your sadistic sense of whimsy! I’m going to demolish all the churches I built for you!

:knocks down house of cards:

What? It still counts. I glued one of those fish thingies to the side.

Nothing much happened in the last chapter: children were endangered, the Riddler went shopping and showed the first signs of Gary Stu-ness by fending off the advances of several women, and Harley Quinn came over to baby-sit while Scarecrow and Riddler went out to commit some unspecified crime.

Since this chapter is the longest one yet, I’m breaking it in half to make it easier for everyone. I wouldn’t want anyone to miss anything important, now would I?

Well folks, this is the third and final chapter of the Batman fic “No title.” While it is possible that the author may post more chapters, I am really hoping that she doesn’t. In fact, I’d be willing to build several churches to prevent this from happening. (It still counts if they’re built in Minecraft, right?)

For those who need a refresher, here are the highlights from the two previous chapters:

Ten years in the past from some unknown date, the Riddler takes two children out for ice cream. While they are out their mothers’ car blows up in a grocery store parking lot and the Riddler is given custody of both children shortly before unknown assailants attack his place of residence, prompting him to contact the Scarecrow. Scarecrow nearly blows himself up when he receives the text that the Riddler sent him and hurries to where the Riddler is located in order to help him. His appearance causes one of the children to have an unnecessary flashback. Scarecrow easily subdues the attackers and the gang head off to his hideout.

After the usual disclaimer there is an Author’s Note that deserves to be reproduced in all its glory.

Hello once again, Library Patrons, and welcome back to my riff of the Batman fanfic with the imaginative title of “No title.” The author has made a slight change in the first chapter since last week; it was previously titled “Chapter 1” but is now titled “Tradegy Occurs,” which sort of ruins the surprise of the exploding car.

If you didn’t read last week’s chapter, here are the highlights: In a flashback set ten years from an unspecified date, the Riddler takes two children of indeterminate age (one of whom remains genderless until the end of the chapter) out for ice cream. As they are walking back to wherever it is they came from, they may or may not have heard an explosion. Upon arriving at the location, they notice that the car belonging to one of the children’s mothers is missing and the Riddler immediately turns on the TV to watch the news. Conveniently there is a broadcast concerning an explosion at a nearby grocery store that identifies the mothers of both children as victims of the explosion and gives custody of the impressionable minors to the Riddler, even though one of the kids isn’t even related to him. The Riddler wonders if “they” will try to go after the children next, which prompts him to send a text message to his friend Johnathon (who is Dr. Jonathan Crane, the Scarecrow)  right before “they” attack. The two kids escape as the Riddler holds off the unidentified attackers with a fear toxin bomb.

I know I’ve said before that I would never riff a Batman: The Animated Series fanfic because of my fondness for the Caped Crusader (and because it would be too easy for me to wander deep into pissed-off fangirl territory and end up randomly slapping the keyboard whilst I foam at the mouth and scream incoherently).

Turns out I’m fine with riffing Batman fics, if they are bad enough.

And gee-golly-gosh, this one is a stinker.
