Hello, boys and girls and [GENDER NOT FOUND]!

Once more I have swashbuckled my way into the forests of fanfic searching for the worst of the worst. It wasn’t easy, let me tell you – have you ever tried to buckle a swash?

Damned things are itchy as hell.

This time I found myself in The Sims section – for those of you who are unaware, The Sims is a video game where you control electronic people who are basically your dolls. You build little houses for them and tell them when to eat, when to sleep, when to take a bath – it’s kind of like taking care of children, you can even dress them up in funny outfits if that’s your thing. I’ve never been able to play more than ten or fifteen minutes before I get bored and find something else to do – I play on the computer specifically to avoid things like taking out the trash and making the bed.

The Sims, shocking as it may seem, has its own section of fanfics –  mostly little life-stories about the various Sims-folk people have created within the game or one of the game’s stock characters. Since the game lacks a clearly defined plot – no alien overlord to vanquish or global conspiracy to uncover – there is not really any unifying theme to the fics and most are about as exciting as listening to someone recount the story of that time they took the ferry across to Shelbyville with an onion tied to their belt.

 Sounds promising, doesn’t it?
