Another week of the continuing adventures of Dawn and I can safely say that I’m still bored as hell with this story. There was so much insanity at the beginning, so I stupidly assumed that the story would continue to be amusing. Boy was I wrong. But I don’t give up easily, so we’re going to finish this thing, even if it bores us to death.
We are on chapter 17, which is titled Boar hunting. I, for one, can’t wait to see wait sort of trouble Dawn will get into while hunting boar. The chapter starts off with a bit of narrative describing Sawyer chasing a boar out of his tent one night and a synopsis of the survivors going after Ethan and Charlie killing him. Really, if I wanted to know what happened on the show, I would just watch it. I have all of the seasons on DVD or BluRay.
So Dawn’s story picks up with Dawn and Sayid teasing Sawyer about the boar taking his tarp and other assorted items. The dialogue is forgettable and Sawyer basically tells Sayid that he better not take any of Sawyer’s remaining stuff while Sawyer goes looking for the boar. For some reason Dawn is upset that Sawyer doesn’t think she will steal any of his stuff. Um, ok, usually people don’t want to be thought of as thieves, but you just go ahead and be different.
Before wandering off after the boar, Sawyer asks Dawn about what she heard in the jungle while she was wandering around out there. Dawn tells him that she heard whispers. Now, I found this exchange a little odd because although Dawn has been flirting with Sawyer, she is always worried about seeming crazy to the other survivors. She’s stated multiple times that she wants to say things to people about what has been happening on the island, but she thinks everyone will thinks she’s insane. So, why is she suddenly so open with Sawyer? He’s a jerk to everyone at this point, so wouldn’t Dawn assume that he would tell everyone that she’s hearing stuff?
Anyway, Sawyer walks out to the jungle and returns minutes later covered in mud and cursing. Dawn just has to know what is going on with him. He tells her that he is going to hunt down the damn boar and she asks to go with him. He agrees and tells her that if she helps him kill the boar, then he’ll forget about the bet they made about the golfing. So, they wander into the jungle to hunt down the boar. Again, I am confused as to why Dawn is suddenly so buddy/buddy with Sawyer. I thought she was in love with Sayid. I guess she just can’t resist his bad-boy charm. And I really don’t understand why Sawyer is so willing to let her hang out with him. It’s really out of character for him, but it does fit with Dawn being the star of this story.
Dawn and Sawyer wander around a bit and don’t really see any boar. But as luck would have it, they run into Kate. She demands to come help them track down the boar and she wants a free favor from Sawyer. He agrees and the trio continues wandering around the jungle until nightfall. They make camp and start drinking. Because fire and alcohol go together really well. They also decide to play “I never”. The game consists of each player saying something they’ve never done and anyone who has done that thing takes a drink. They all start off with lame unimportant stuff and the game ends with them all drinking because they’ve all killed a man. Dawn is upset by this “I never” and goes to sleep.
In the morning, they wake to find that all of their stuff has been torn apart by boar. Sawyer is pissed off that the boar seems to have it in for him. Then John Locke shows up and makes them coffee. Yes, really. I can’t remember if that happened in the show, but I’m just to imagine that it did because it’s a little too random for the author. Locke leaves and the trio continues hunting down the boar.
They finally find boar, well, they find a baby boar, which Sawyer captures. Something about that pisses Kate off and she kicks Sawyer. He drops the boar and Kate leaves in a huff. Sawyer and Dawn are like, WTF? Oh, don’t worry, I’m with you guys there. So they are left wondering which way the beach might be. They wander a little while and then find the boar. Sawyer decides not to shoot it after all and Kate ends up watching the whole thing. They make it back to the beach before nightfall.
Dawn and Sayid have a little talk about what they did while apart and then Dawn goes back to her tent to sleep.
I really hope something happens in the next chapter, but I’m not holding my breath. Just four more chapters to go. Well, I still have 4,000 words to write to complete my NaNo novel, so I’ll leave you now.

I’m starting to experience Plot Regurgitation in my current project.
I like how Locke just randomly pops in for a cup’o'joe then takes off again. As if this story doesn’t have enough “Bwa?” moments!
Everything I’ve heard makes the show sound really exciting. It’s quite a “talent” the author has to make it all sound so boring.
